SALARY:                       $58.80 (Min) – $69.88 (Max)

Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN) Incentive and Northern Top-Up and Relocation Grants – Available to eligible NPs offered through Ontario Health
  • Provides $25,000 in grant funding to eligible nurses in exchange for a 2-year commitment.
  • Provides $10,000 in grant funding to eligible nurses in exchange for a 2-year commitment to an employer located in Northern Ontario (within the North East or North West Ontario Health regions)
  • Provides $10,000 in grant funding to eligible nurses in exchange for a 2-year commitment who move from a minimum distance of 100 kilometres outside Northern Ontario to any Northern community (within the North East or North West Ontario Health regions)

 Reporting to the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Manager of Emergency Services, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will support and enhance an interprofessional team within the Emergency Department (ED). Functioning within the Standards of Practice for Extended Class as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the NP will work in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other members of the interprofessional team to improve the clinical outcomes of the patient population seeking care in the ED.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Emergency Department is open 24 hrs/day 7 days per week. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, pastoral care, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians and other members of our health care team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Complete assessments on patients that present with both acute and chronic illness.  Prescribe treatment/diagnostic testing as able to do so in accordance with CNO and NBRHC policy
  • Work independently within scope of his/her practice with limited support from MD
  • Work with internal and external partners to provide continuity of care and smooth transition at time of discharge
  • Manage ED call back lists on a daily basis; communicate results to patients and arrange/explain follow up if needed
  • Manage patients that have return visits to the ED for:
    • Imaging
    • IV antibiotics
    • Dressing changes
    • other as required  
  • Assists ED physicians with seeing Fast Track patients
  • Short term follow-up for diagnostics, new chronic disease diagnosis, and antenatal care for those patients with no primary care provider
  • Collaborates with the team on quality improvement and staff development initiatives as required
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse Extended Class (RNEC)
  • Minimum of three (3) years recent experience in a Nurse Practitioner role; preferably in the field of Emergency Medicine
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent nursing experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular, prenatal care, metabolic conditions, common acute/chronic illness, pharmacology and epidemiology
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitors as well as support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of health events in our organization  
  • Good work and attendance record is required
  • Bilingualism (Advanced Level English/French) is required.  All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the French requirement has been met or if there are no successful bilingual candidates.  A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Previous ED experience 
  • A.C.L.S., PALS, TNCC certificates or ability to complete within 8 months of hire
  • Experience working with patients presenting with Mental Health conditions
  • Experience working with geriatric patients
 Criminal Reference Check including the Vulnerable Sector Check recent within six (6) months is a requirement
