Job Description:
The NBRHC Service of Forensic Psychiatry is seeking a Psychiatrist to join our dedicated team providing compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care to adults with serious mental illness who have been found Unfit to Stand Trial or Not Criminally Responsible.
Our program offers a unique opportunity to participate in court assessments and to provide patient care within an interprofessional, collaborative team environment. The service includes:
- An assessment and stabilization unit
- Rehabilitation and specialized transition-to-community units
- A specialized treatment unit for women
- Community outreach services
As an affiliated academic teaching center with NOSM University, we welcome candidates with an interest in medical education. The preferred candidate will contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners.
The successful applicant will also participate in the Department of Psychiatry hospital on-call rotation and provide consult-liaison services to the organization’s medical units.
Qualifications:
Applicants require certification in Forensic Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be independently licensed to practice Psychiatry in Ontario by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
NBRHC also welcomes interest from fellows in their final year of specialty training.

This position will be remunerated through a combination of fee-for-service billings, a lucrative Northern Specialist Alternative Payment Plan, & Hospital On-Call stipends. In addition, NBRHC has a competitive Incentive Package which includes a $25,000 recruitment stipend, $25,000 practice start up grant, assistance with relocation expenses, and $94,000 via the Northern Rural Recruitment & Retention Initiative.
