Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord (
HSN) and the community of Greater Sudbury is actively seeking 3 full time equivalent permanent Geriatricians and 1 full time equivalent Care of the Elderly Physician. Locum opportunities are also available.
The North East Specialized Geriatric Centre (NESGC) at HSN in partnership with St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre (SJCCC) has been actively developing and implementing geriatric services including the inpatient Consultation for Older Adults with Acutely Compromised Health (COACH) team and Geriatric Emergency Medicine (GEM) program at HSN, the NESGC outpatient and outreach teams, and the Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit at St. Joseph’s CCC.
The successful candidate(s) will join 1 existing Geriatrician, 3 Care of the Elderly Physicians, and work with teams of specialized health care providers to provide interdisciplinary consultation to Sudbury and Northeastern Ontario via acute care consultation, ambulatory clinics, telemedicine consultation, home visits, and long term care consults. The full complement of HSN’s inpatient, NESGC, and SJCCC’s teams includes: nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, reactivation workers, social work, dietician, manager of clinical services, clerical support, and an education coordinator. Inpatient work is completed at the HSN main site (41 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury), and St. Joseph’s CCC (1140 South Bay Road, Sudbury), outpatient services are offered at the NESGC (960-D Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury) and the Sudbury Outpatient Centre (865 Regent Street, Sudbury)
As a member of the Department of Medicine, the successful Geriatrician applicant(s) will also participate in General Medicine call and be involved in the Internal Medicine Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU). All successful applicant(s), Geriatricians and Care of the Elderly Physicians, will hold faculty appointment at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (
NOSM). HSN and NESGC are teaching affiliates with NOSM and thus the candidate(s) will supervise medical trainees, and actively participate in the ongoing development and supervision of trainees in the Family Medicine PGY3 year of Enhanced Skills in Care of the Elderly; teaching occurs at both the HSN and NESGC sites. Research opportunities are also available with HSN’s affiliated research institute,
HSNRI.
All candidates must be eligible for licensure in Ontario and have obtained or be eligible to obtain: speciality qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a Geriatrician or Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada as a Care of the Elderly Physician.
Remuneration is via fee-for-service billing to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). An Alternative Payment Plan is available which complements OHIP billing up to $375,000 annually. Additional revenue streams are available for supervising learners and formal teaching (lectures, case-based sessions).
