Health PEI is seeking candidates for a full-time permanent Physiatrist based at the
Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in
Charlottetown(link is external), the capital city of Prince Edward Island (PEI). Health PEI is a crown corporation responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services in PEI. The successful candidate will join the Rehabilitation Team located in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of the QEH. The QEH is a 243-bed provincial referral facility and general hospital.
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to: practice electrodiagnosis in the QEH EMG Lab in collaboration with our Neurological colleagues; perform inpatient and outpatient consultations and directive care; musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment; and participate in interdisciplinary rehabilitation clinics with our ambulatory teams. The Department has a well equipped rehabilitation clinic including the equipment for ultrasound and needle EMG guided diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Remuneration:
Physicians have the option of choosing a salary or contract for services remuneration. There may be an opportunity to explore additional duties for fee-for-service payment. Hours of Work:
• Full-time: 37.5 hrs/week
• Currently our allocation is 2 Physiatrists and therefore on call is not required.

• Eligible moving expense reimbursement up to $10,000 is available;
• There is an opportunity to be affiliated with Dalhousie University for Post-Graduate and Under-Graduate teaching. CME via videoteleconference is readily available including regional Physical Medicine Rehabilitation Rounds from Dalhousie/NS Rehabilitation Centre.
• The provincial Electronic Patient Records System, laboratory services and diagnostic imaging is well developed with access via VPN onsite and in the community.

The Physical Medicine Rehab Department has appropriate technologies to support assessment and treatment including gait analysis, BWS, NMES, excellent Prosthetics and Orthotics design and fabrication, and a soon-to-be installed mobility assessment module. The Department Manager and Management and Clinical Teams are extremely collaborative and collegial in goal directed and quality enhanced service provision for Islanders with disabilities.
Intensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation occurs at the Provincial Rehabilitation Unit, a specialized twenty bed unit in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Ten beds are designated for stroke rehabilitation and ten beds for general rehabilitation, typically including Islanders post traumatic brain injury, complex orthopedic/musculoskeletal impairments, peripheral and central neurological disorders. The unit is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of professionals who are highly dedicated to restoring optimal function and health, preventing complications and reintegration of individuals with disabilities back into the community. The unit successfully participated in our Provincial Stroke Program’s excellence award, the Accreditation Stroke Distinction Award. Quality improvement projects are ongoing in all patient populations on the unit lead by our Nurse Manager and Physiatrists. One of the physiatrists functions as the Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Unit in collaboration with the unit’s Medical Officer and Nurse Manager.
