Sioux Lookout Regional Physician Services - Where Passion Meets Opportunity!

Variety of practice opportunities – ER, Hospitalist, Local and First Nations Clinic Practitioner

Are you looking for an exciting career in rural medicine? The Sioux Lookout region is currently recruiting contract and locum family physicians to come and join our team. As a rural family physician, you will work in a variety of settings that can include rural and remote clinic work, ER, hospitalist, and other areas. Come work in a diverse and flexible work environment with a supportive team unlike anywhere else.

Sioux Lookout is situated between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg in the beautiful lake-filled Canadian shield. The town has a population of approximately 5500 people and is the main hub for 31 remote First Nation communities in Northern Ontario.  Many of the northern communities are only accessible by air with populations ranging from 350 to 3500 people. Physicians can experience working in diverse fly-in communities across Northern Ontario, or work in Sioux Lookout itself in a variety of settings that suit your experience and passion.

Our beautiful fully accredited Meno Ya Win Health Centre has 60 beds, a CT scanner, and has general surgery, GP anesthesia and GP-Obsterical support. Family physicians interested in rural medicine, ER, hospitalist, and/or clinic work are needed. Our physicians provide support/consult services (when not in a community) via phone for nurses who are stationed in each northern community’s medical center. Phone medicine work can be done remotely and is an experience we would happily mentor people into.

There are exciting and one-of-a-kind opportunities when you come and practice rural family medicine in the Sioux Lookout region. Experience meaningful work with remote First Nations communities, engage with great services and peers at the hospital and clinic, and have great work-life balance with flexible scheduling and excellent renumeration. Sioux Lookout itself is a great place for those who love the outdoors offering recreational activities including incredible paddling, fishing, multipurpose trails, and golf as well as an unparalleled sense of community.

Remuneration information: Family physicians who provide contract/locum coverage will be reimbursed on a per diem basis. All remuneration is based on a pre-set fee schedule. Locums also qualify for expenses through Ontario Health Rural Family Medicine Locum program.

We recommend a minimum three-week initial locum that includes two full paid days of orientation to get the full scope of opportunities we have to offer in the Sioux Lookout region.
